Having an active School Council develops a partnership between all members of the school community. Pupils are given the chance to take an active part in school decision-making and have the experience of being respected and listened to. They also become aware of how to present a reasoned argument, even when this may be unpopular – the good of the school comes first.
Here at The Harlow Academy we have a thriving School Council that meet every half term to discuss anything school related. Pupils are given the opportunity to raise questions with the school council members, who then bring these to the half termly School Council meeting. Representatives then feedback to their peers with any outcomes from the meetings.
